The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

The Queens Reign

Her Majesty the Queen is the longest reigning British monarch in history. The upcoming Jubilee will be her Platinum Jubilee, which will commemorate 70 years on the throne. Queen Elizabeth II succeeded the throne in 1952 when her father, King George VI passed away. Her coronation was in June 1953 – over a year after the King had passed. This is due to the rules around leaving an appropriate amount between death of a Monarch and holding such celebrations.
The Queen has reigned through major political changes. For example, the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and decolonisation of Africa. She also witnessed the UK join and withdraw from the EU (1973-2020). Prior to becoming Queen, she lived and worked through the Second World War. Working within the armed forces she trained as a driver and mechanic; and was given the rank of honorary junior commander.
Throughout the last few years the Queen has been steadfast in her support for the country; and the NHS. Especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic, even while suffering the loss of her husband, Prince Phillip. She has been vocal about her grief which in a way brought the public closer to the Royal Family.

A Platinum Jubilee

The Platinum Jubilee is on the 2nd of June 2022 and will be celebrated across the nation; as well as throughout the commonwealth. There is some events in lead up to the Jubilee; which ends in a culmination of a 4-day Bank Holiday for the UK.
