Used by many of the greatest artists and thinkers of the last two centuries, including Vincent Van Gogh; Ernest Hemingway and (slightly) more recently, Bruce Chatwin.Chatwin talks of the original in his book “The Songlines”, mourning the loss of the small French company that produced them. They had gone out of business in 1986. Chatwin favoured these books and he bought as many of the remaining stock as he could. Contrary to what you may think, Moleskine notebooks aren't made using mole (or any other kind of animal!) They are paper and cardboard bound with a soft finish polypropylene. It is a thermo plastic that is used in a range of different industries.

According the the company, there isn't really a correct way to pronounce it. In English, the most logical way to say it is "Mole-Skin" but in French and Italian, its more along the lines of "Mole-eh-skeen" or "Mole-eh-skeen-eh". I suppose you can say it which ever way feels right for you.
