Italian Design
Castelli, the Italian notebook and stationery company, was born in Bergamo, Italy. This is in the Lombardy region, which is also home to Milan. This is the global capital of fashion and design. Bergamo itself, particularly the upper district (Known as Città Alta) is rich with art, history and ancient Venetian architecture.
Creative husband and wife duo, Lindo and Maria Castelli began creating notebooks and diaries by hand in their small Italian workshop in 1965. Since then, they have nurtured their family and their brand into the one that we know and love today. Castelli notebooks and diaries boast sleek Italian design, an array of stunning colours and exquisite attention to detail. However, it’s the family’s love of their craft that makes this brand so special. From their ethical process and sourcing of materials; to their admiration of paper as an art form itself.
Materials used by Castelli
Castelli products are made from FSC certified paper. This means the Forest Stewardship Council has certified the paper, making Castelli products a responsibly made and sourced. The FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Certified paper is traceable from source to point of sale, whereas non-certified paper is not. This is better for the environment and the worlds forests.
The Castelli notebooks, journals and diaries are bound in PU fabric, which is a type of faux leather and a synthetic material made from polymer resins. The most common polymer resins that PU fabric is made of are Polycarbonate, Polyether, Polyester. These all have different unique qualities and can be used in combination to get the best looking faux leather. This is then usually lined with a material or fabric in a matching colour – creating the soft and malleable PU fabric perfect for binding Castelli notebooks.
Creative Castelli
Castelli as a company really value their creative process – and they feel very strongly about the importance of family within their company and value pride in their practice. A quiet workshop allows them to focus on new projects, but other times, they thrive off the sound of a bustling environment. The whole workshop from designers to creators all get to co-exist in the same area where they can all feed off each other’s creativity.
Castelli on Human Rights
Everyone at Castelli is important. As part of their recognition of Human Rights – they vow to treat all employees equally and fairly, regardless of gender, orientation; marital status, age, creed, ethnicity, nationality or physically and mental ability.
The company also refuse business from those with links to governments, businesses or regimes that uphold oppressive ideals or lack support for basic human rights.

Castelli care about the environment. This is why the products they make are sustainable, through recycling and reduction of waste. The company support other businesses involved in renewable energy, and encourage sustainable living amongst their staff and their clients.

Like its name suggests, this diary is 100% recyclable. It comes in two natural colours, green or graphite; has its own internal pocket, ideal for storing notes or scraps in.
